Project Overview

The Garibaldi Museum in Caprera, Italy, tells the story of the “Hero of Two Worlds” through an immersive journey of lives, places, and intertwining stories. A continuous red line acts as the guiding thread from entrance to exit, connecting multimedia installations that combine sounds, videos, and animated graphics into an emotive narrative.
As Motion Graphic Designer, I collaborated closely with a multidisciplinary team of developers, sound designers, architects, logisticians, carpenters, and exhibition curators. Together, we designed and produced the first interactive installation of the exhibition: an interactive timeline dedicated to the key moments of Garibaldi’s life, guiding visitors through evocative imagery and historical events until the final chapter on the coast of Caprera.
INTERACTIVE Installation

The installation featured a large back wall projection for the main video narrative and a floor projection displaying a world map with animated travel routes. Both were powered by two synchronized projectors. In front of the wall, a metal horizontal bar was mounted, holding a custom sliding knob (manopola) that visitors could move to explore different points in the timeline. This tactile interface controlled the content on both projections in perfect sync, creating a cohesive spatial and historical storytelling experience.
Interaction

Control device: a sliding knob  mounted on a sturdy horizontal metal bar
Function: moving the knob navigates through Garibaldi’s life timeline, triggering synchronized updates on both wall and floor projections
User experience: tactile, intuitive, and physically engaging, encouraging visitors to actively explore the story at their own pace
Technical setup: dual projectors running synchronized video streams, linked to the interaction system for real-time control
Garibaldi installation Isometric view: a wall projection and a floor projection kept in sync. Sliding a knob along a metal bar moves both through the timeline. Wall Floor Installation Content synchronization Sliding the knob moves through the timeline
VISUALS

Wall projection: cinematic video narrative of Garibaldi’s life events
Floor projection: animated world map with travel routes following the timeline
Graphic style: clean and iconic, using simple shapes and stylized characters moving along lines to represent life paths that converge and diverge
Color palette & design language: consistent with the exhibition’s signature red line, ensuring visual unity across all installations
Outcome

The result was a dynamic, intuitive experience where history unfolded interactively, engaging visitors both emotionally and visually, and turning Garibaldi’s journey into an immersive, memorable encounter.
