Project Overview

SIOT Gateway is a modular software solution developed for Inalp that enables seamless, two-way communication between IoT devices and external systems.
As a UX Designer, I applied the Double Diamond methodology to understand complex industrial workflows and design a scalable, efficient, and responsive interface optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop. The system breaks traditional data silos by normalizing input from various sensors and making it accessible to multiple output destinations such as cloud databases, local files, or physical hardware. Designed for flexibility, the UI is built to easily support future integrations and feature expansion.
Design Process
The double diamond approach was particularly suited to the SIOT Gateway project, which involved technical complexity, multiple user types, and layered interactions between software and hardware.
Discover

The project began with research into the industrial environments where the product would be used. I observed workflows involving digital input modules, interviewed technical stakeholders, and collaborated with engineers to understand both user needs and system constraints. This helped identify gaps in existing siloed solutions and shaped the focus of the UX design.
Define

Insights from the discovery phase were used to frame the core challenges: how to represent data flow, device connectivity, and configuration logic in a clear, usable interface. I defined the user journey for configuring input and output integrations and translated technical requirements into user-centered interface priorities.
DEVelop

During the development phase, I created interactive prototypes for a modular and responsive UI—one that could scale across desktop, tablet, and mobile. I collaborated closely with developers to test feasibility, ensure seamless integration of features, and adapt to real-time feedback. The UI was designed with components that could evolve to accommodate future functionalities and hardware types.
DELIVER

The final phase included internal validation and field testing. We refined flows for two-way data handling (input and output), ensuring the interface supported real-time diagnostics and intuitive configuration. The final solution delivered a robust, scalable system that normalized data and made it accessible across applications and platforms.
